Why DASCO Is Backing the People’s Choice Award for a Third Year

We’re proud to return as sponsor of the People’s Choice Award at the Wigan Business Awards 2026.

This will be our third year supporting the category. By now, it has become an important part of our relationship with the Awards and the wider Wigan business community.

The People’s Choice Award stands apart because the public decides the winner.

Customers, employees, suppliers, friends and local communities all get the opportunity to support the businesses they believe deserve recognition.

For us, that local connection is exactly why the category stands out.

Keeping our roots in Wigan

DASCO has grown considerably over the last few years. However, Wigan remains at the heart of the business.

We employ local people, invest in apprentices and work with suppliers from across the borough. We also support local charities, community organisations, sports clubs and initiatives throughout the year.

As the business grows, we want that growth to create opportunities for the communities around us too.

Supporting the Wigan Business Awards gives us another way to celebrate the businesses doing the same.

Our Wigan Business Awards journey

Our relationship with the Wigan Business Awards started long before we became a sponsor.

In 2018, DASCO received Highly Commended for Family Business of the Year. A year later, we returned and won the category.

When the Wigan Business Awards returned in 2024 after a four-year break, we joined the event as People’s Choice sponsor.

It also turned into quite a night for the DASCO team.

We won Family Business of the Year, Employer of the Year and Wigan’s Business of the Year. Meanwhile, Charlotte Rothwell won Employee of the Year.

Then, in 2025, we returned as People’s Choice sponsor and reached the finals once again.

That year, we retained Wigan’s Business of the Year, received Highly Commended for Employer of the Year and reached the final for Family Business of the Year.

We know first-hand what recognition like that can mean to a team; it’s transformational.

So, supporting other local businesses through the Awards is even more worthwhile.

Almost 90,000 votes

The scale of the People’s Choice Award also continues to grow.

In 2025, the category attracted an incredible 88,742 votes.

Behind those numbers are thousands of people choosing to take a few minutes to support a business they value.

That could be a customer who has received brilliant service, an employee proud of where they work or a community that wants to get behind one of its own.

That’s the kind of support that we love to see.

Back for 2026

This year, we’re returning to the Wigan Business Awards as both sponsor and finalist.

DASCO has reached the final for Business of the Year, Family Business of the Year and Employer of the Year.

Meanwhile, Joanne Boyer is also a finalist for Employee of the Year.

So, while we’ll be backing the businesses competing for the People’s Choice Award, we’ll also be heading into awards night with plenty to celebrate ourselves.

And if previous years have taught us anything, it’s that People’s Choice can get competitive.

We wouldn’t have it any other way.

The People’s Choice Vote opens on Monday 12 October and runs for one week.
