2050 Net Zero Plan
DASCO Construction Net Zero Plan: Building a Sustainable Future
At DASCO Construction, we are committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, guided by principles of equity, innovation, and sustainability. In June 2019, the UK Government increased the nation’s legislated target for greenhouse gas emissions reductions from at least 80% to at least 100% by 2050, underscoring the urgency of this global challenge.
Our approach prioritises emission reduction, decarbonisation, and a cautious use of offsets to address residual emissions. We view this journey as an opportunity to lead the construction sector into a sustainable future while creating new economic opportunities.
Emissions Reduction Strategy
1. Prioritising Emission Reduction
Our strategy emphasises avoiding and reducing emissions at every opportunity, incorporating sustainability into every aspect of our operations.
2. Decarbonising Energy and Transportation
- Improving overall Energy Efficiency throughout our operations.
- Transitioned office lighting to 100% energy-efficient LED lighting.
- Installed a biomass heater for office heating, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
- Future Goal (2025-2026): Constructing a new Net Zero Head Office featuring solar panels, HVAC units, and rainwater harvesting systems.
- Transportation Electrification
- Converted over 22% of our fleet to full electric vehicles (EVs).
- Implemented operational efficiencies, such as resource doubling, to reduce van miles travelled.
3. Improving Resource Efficiency
- Enhanced on-site resource planning to reduce wasted travel and redundant energy usage.
- Exploring sustainable material choices and lifecycle considerations in construction projects.
4. Future Initiatives
- Install EV chargers at the new head office to further encourage electrification.
- Expand renewable energy integration across operational sites.
- Explore partnerships to promote circular economy practices in material usage.
- Convert more of our fleet to electric vehicles (EVs).
Offsetting Strategy
1. Limiting Offsetting
DASCO aims to rely on offsets for no more than 10% of baseline emissions, focusing instead on direct emission reductions.
2. Cautious Carbon Removal
We plan to integrate carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies only as a last resort, ensuring these methods align with robust regulatory standards.
3. Effective Regulation
DASCO will only engage in offset programs that adhere to rigorous, transparent, and scientifically sound verification practices.
Time Frame for Reaching Net Zero
Short-term (2025-2030):
Achieve a 50% reduction in emissions by:
- Transitioning additional fleet vehicles to EVs.
- Finalising the construction of the Net Zero Head Office.
- Further improving operational energy efficiency.
Medium-term (2030-2040):
- Expand renewable energy use in construction sites and operational facilities.
- Integrate smart technologies to track and optimize emissions reductions in real-time.
Long-term (2040-2050):
- Fully transition to a decarbonised supply chain and material lifecycle approach.
- Achieve 100% reliance on renewable energy sources across all operations.
Socio-Ecological Objectives
We are committed to ensuring our transition to Net Zero is equitable and inclusive:
- Partnering with local communities to create green jobs.
- Supporting suppliers in adopting sustainable practices.
- Designing solutions that mitigate social and environmental impacts.
Economic Opportunities
DASCO views the Net Zero transition as a chance to:
- Innovate in sustainable construction methods.
- Differentiate our services in an increasingly eco-conscious market.
- Build lasting value for stakeholders by aligning profitability with sustainability.
- Designing solutions that mitigate social and environmental impacts.
Our Commitment
DASCO Construction’s 2050 Net Zero Plan is not just a response to climate change but a declaration of our values. By aligning our business operations with global climate goals, we aim to build more than infrastructure—we aim to build a future where both our business and our planet thrive.
